I just picked these two CD's up recently. They are a gem for the avid collector of rare salsa music. The sound is so gritty on some of the tracks, and every track will most certainly please any dancefloor. If you like your cowbells and timbales then these are definitely the albums for you. This 'garage' salsa sound gives you cowbells and timbales on steroids. With tracks like "My Ghetto" from Kent Gomez & His Orchestra, and artists such as Orquesta La Solucion, you are guaranteed aural pleasure.

Well, Nov 22nd is the date to pencil in your schedule as it is officially the first day of the Dubai Salsa Festival, and I have to say I am very excited about it. This is a wonderful opportunity for local dancers to understand and appreciate Congresso Style music and dancing.

Well, it’s been two months since we’ve started the Breeze Salsa nights at ZINC and I have to say…..I am so happy at the feedback we’ve been getting. At first I didn’t think people would get into the mambo groove, but wow! People in Dubai are definitely open to new (well technically the music is very old) things. What are your thoughts and comments on the night?

For my first blog I am giving you a review of El Combo De Pepe that I wrote fall the fall edition of La Voz Magazine.

El Combo De Pepe

Want a fantastic Descarga Guajira release? El Combo De Pepe is composed of some very talented Peruvian musicians: Alfredo Linares, Pepe Hernandez, Oswaldo Diaz, and Nilo Espinoza. Pepe Hernandez, a classically trained musician, was responsible for bringing this collaboration together. This album can only be described as salsa music on cocaine. All eleven tracks were originally released in 1968. One track after the next takes you on a very hard swinging journey of vibrant sound. The tracks are very short yet very uninhibited, therefore allowing you, the dancer, to burst out with every complex pattern and shine within a two to three minute time frame. This is your chance to show off! In closing, this album was not intended for the sentimentalist collector of rare Afro Cubans, rather it was designed for all hardcore Salseros and Salseras out there.
